Only in the Philippines

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/OFWMan/

Here's the most sought after campaign jingle in the May 2007 elections:

Boom tarat tarat, boom tarat tarat

Tararat tararat, boom boom boom

English translation:

Boom tarat tarat, boom tarat tarat

Tararat tararat, boom boom boom

Yep, what you hear is what you get: catchy words but empty in substance!

In an election where bells and whistles dominate the "democratic space," we strongly appeal for an issue-based campaign in the 2007 elections.

Please sign our online petition:

Migrants' Manifesto for Issue-Based Electoral Contest

Isang Malayang Bukas! Maraming salamat sa inyong pagiging isang makabayan.
.

ELEKSIYON!

BAKIT!!!

Matatag at may Moral.

KUNG WALANG MAGSISIMULA AY WALANG MAGWAWAKAS!!!

Isang Malayang Bukas,

No amount of "pleading" or "imploring" will move our thick-faced traditional politicians and their proteges to seriously consider the plight of the OFWs. They will just continue to pay lip service to OFWs, the poor, the middle class, the youth and small businessmen just to get their support during elections. They may even put some of the suggestions from the OFW Manifesto on their Party Platform, but that is no guarantee that they will follow that when they get elected.

The only effective way is for enough number of concerned OFWs imbued with a strong sense of patriotism, vision, determination and leadership ability would come back and become part of the solution and the "brain gain" and actively join forces with Philippine-based leaders to organize the diverse groups of disenfranchised stakeholders --- the urban and rural poor, the youth, the small businessmen, ordinary public and private employees and workers, and the 10 million OFWs and their families --- into one huge coalition behind a "Moral Choice" candidate who has proven to be incorruptible and a dedicated servant of the people.

I am planning to go back home and contribute all I can to help bring this about in our Home country. I also have a number of friends here in the US who will do the same. I believe we are facing a historic moment in this coming 2010 elections. There will be many candidates for President who each believe that they are going to win but no one among the "Trapos" can get more than 25 % of the total votes to be cast. If majority of the disenfranchised but huge groups will coalesce behind a Moral candidate, then we have a more than even chance to win for our country and our people!
